On May 16th, my baby boy turned nine. I feel like
every day I am saying, “Where did the time go?” To celebrate his last year in
the single digits, we had a play at the park with a handful of his
friends. When it came time to prepare
for the party, I asked what food was served at his friends’ birthday
parties. The answer: sushi, vegetable
sticks, fruit, etc. Picking up a tray of Chick-Fil-A nuggets isn’t an option
here. I am not even sure the parents would approve if it was an option. So, on our menu we had homemade hummus with
capsicum, carrot, and celery sticks (Ellis wanted to make sure the veggies were
cut just right), fruit, gluten free cupcakes, popcorn, and a few other treats.
The children had a ball playing soccer, basketball, and “tiggy” (tag). We also
introduced them to tailgate golf, which was quite a hit. I have to be honest,
when I see Ellis with his buddies, my heart aches a little bit. I know one day
he will really miss them!
